Coldplay Rogers Arena 4-20

We went to Coldplay tonight and it was a bit of a spur of the moment thing. We got tickets in the bleeders behind the stage but it ended up being a pretty great show. We got these cool wristbands that lit up and was apart of the show. I have uped some vids I took but beware the audio is crap. You’ve been warned. Go see them if you ever get the chance!

Prince, Kanye and Jay Z. What a weekend!!!

So school is out and to celebrate we went to see a few shows.

On Friday, we went to Rogers Arena and saw Prince and the New Power Generation. There was no opener and he came on a little bit late (according to the schedule). But holy man did me make up for it. He played for almost 3 hours and it was a funk, r &b and soul show. It was great. We didnt really know what to expect but it was a great time. The best part was he and the band walked away down the tunnel to the dressing room, the house lights came on, the electronic advertising came back on, the music came back on but the fans didn’t want to leave. We cheered for a good 10 minutes and Prince obliged and came back for an encore. Whether it was part of show or not, I’m not sure but it certainly was an excellent show. It was almost like being at a gospel show (so I was told). Did I mention that he is a killer guitar player too. And finally, looking at set list, his show is varied every night with different songs from his long catalogue. To me that is impressive, when you can play different songs depending on the crowd, you know that you are seeing the real deal!

It was a great start to the weekend. And the finale of the weekend was going to see the Watch The Throne tour with Kanye West and Jay Z. We have been lucky enough to see the both of them before and they killed it each time. I don’t know if it was an indication of the evening but in the line up, we had the biggest d-bag lined up behind us talking all kinds of crazy smack and the two dudes in front of us were heated out about where to put their doobs.

Once we got inside, the ladies behind us were talking about where they were going to puke because we were in the no drinking area (oxymoron right? at concert!) and slammed their coolers. Fine. As long as the don’t puke on us. Then the ladies beside me had no concept of personal space. At least if they were good dancers I could of tolerated it a little more but OMG they were were terrible. The one closest to me flailed about never moving with the beat or the rhythm and thought she was all gangsta. I imagined that gangsta’s would each bitches like her alive! Her only move was to push and pull her arm in front of her like she was trying to close the freezer door getting her rocky road on!

Okay, enough, what about the show. The show was great, they came out on two separate stages that rose in the air and they played nothing but hits for over two hours. All the songs you know and what to hear were played. And for the encore, they played N*gg*s In Paris ten times. Apparently that feat is only matched by the LA show. It was an unreal experience to watch the ending unfold. Admittedly, I didnt know that last song and was puzzled why they kept playing it over and over but by the end I started to get into the fact that they kept playing it over and over again. I started to realize that was something that I would never ever see again, a ten same song encore. Crazy way to end a show for sure.

Foo Fighters Rocks

Foo Fighters Rogers Arena October 25

I just got back from the Foo Fighters show at Rogers Arena and man oh man did it rock. They played for almost 3 hours and they played every song like it was going to be the last one of the show! It was amazing to see them put that much energy into the show and I thought that the crowd did a great job showing their love back. Dave Grohl is a certified rock star and knows how to work the crowd! They even covered Pink Floyd and Tom Petty. Loved the show and can not say enough great stuff about the Foo’s. Also check out their new album, its amazing and even better live.

Pearl Jam Vancouver Sept 25 2011

Well my love for Pearl Jam continued last night. Pearl Jam played at the Pacific Colosseum for the first time since 1998 and it seemed like an old school show. A lot of old songs were played and it was great for the real enthusiastic fans. My favorite part of the show was when Ed Ved was bashing on Seattle fans. Again!

Weezer in Seattle

On Friday night we went to Seattle to see Weezer perform. Why did we go to Seattle when they were playing Live at Squamish? Well for the simple reason because they were performing their Memories set list. The Memories show is them playing the Blue Album and Pinkerton in their full entirety.

It was at the WaMu theater that was basically a convenstion center that they do concerts in. I thought that the sound would be really crappy but it ended up being quite good. The Thermals from Portland was the opener and they were okay, but really everyone was looking forward to Weezer.

The show was awesome. Weezers first two albums are the best ones in my opinion and to hear all the songs were awesome. I thought that the show was awesome and they played great. To close the show, they came back on with the lights on and played Blast Off, which they have never played live before and it is the opening track off of the never released Songs From The Black Hole.

Great show!

Here is Weezer covering Radiohead.

Here is the set list for the show

Soundgarden

I have been waiting for a long time to see Soundgarden play live. I have gone and seen Chris Cornell play live 2 times solo act style, but it wasnt the same. On Friday, Al and I got the chance we have been waiting for for the last 15 years. We got to rock out to Soundgarden live at Rogers Arena.

To tell you the truth, Vancouver got the shortest setlist on the whole tour. We got 20 songs and the standard had been 23. The show was good but not with out a few problems. For starters, you could hardly head Kim Thaiyl’s leads. A little disappointing! But Chris Cornell’s voice was on fire and Matt Cameron is a monster behind the drum kit.

Highlights were Outshined, Jesus Christ Pose, Fell On Black Days, 4th of July and Rusty Cage. And to think that Bad Motor Finger isn’t even my fav Soundgarden album! If any one has one of the belt buckles, let me know!

Arcade Fire

On sunday it was Phoenix and tonight it was arcade fire. The last time we saw them it was also at the pne and it was five years ago. Actually it was our first date.

Now we have just got back from the show and it was pretty awesome. They play with such energy and it’s so manic on stage. Everyone is playing everything and having fun and pumping up the crowd. At one point one of the guys ran around the arena and was chucking his drum on the ground and jumping around. Crazy stuff! The only thing was it seemed like a bit of a short show. Maybe it was me but ot seemed like it was two or three songs short. But you never ask for too much and what we got was definetly the good stuff. Wish you were there with us to enjoy it!!!
