With it being the last Saturday of the olympics, we decided to head out see a few more things. We went to the o zone and saw what it had to offer. It wasn’t but it wasn’t great. We did see Kevin martin wi. Gold there. After din er we headed out to robson street. I thought we missed it but we actually got there in time for the show. After we headed down to the cauldron. It’s pretty cool and really large. I would have to say the we personally really enjoyed the olympics and all the cheer it provided. Go Canada go in the big hockey game tomorrow.

i bet this doesn’t happen in your neighbourhood!
i was coming home from lunch and in the car, a firetruck went by me, not unusual right? but this time it went down my block and low and behold half a block away there was a lot of commotion. there was a total of 8 firetrucks and 1 ambulance attending the scene. not a common occurrence around these parts thats for sure. it was interesting to watch a be a spectator to all the things going on. they had a lot of firemen on the roof and some coming through the building and other ones man the trucks.
apparently there were roofers on the building when a fire started. i think that the major concern was the fact there was a propane tank(s) up there are well. so far it seems like no one was hurt, just a lot of fire trucks. they even had a ladder truck from the front of the building and one from the back in alley.

very interesting to see a those firemen working…they respond quickly and calmly…

He’s A Ping Pong Playa…Baby
Last night I tried to connect with my Asian Heritage. I went to the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and saw two really fun movies.
The first movie was a short film on Harvey Lowe, the worlds first YO-Yo Champion. It was a great insightful movie that really connected with because he has a similar story to my grandparents. I also have the feeling the my grandmother knows this man because I have heard his name before!
The Feature film was called Ping Pong Playa! This is the film that really connected with my roots!
Little did you know, but I was destined to become a master of table tennis until that accident that shall remain unspoken of!
It was a fun comedy that was full of humor and it was also great to see Chinese characters depicted as normal member of Western society, not the regular math geeks stereotype. The movie played on a lot of those stereotypes and had fun with them. I had a great time watching the film and highly recommend it to anyone.
On another note. We have had some mold issues in our new place. It is mostly caused by poor air circulation and we have taken steps to change that. I spent a weekend two weeks ago cleaning all of the window sills with a mixture of bleach and water. More air gets to the windows, we shut the door to the bathroom and if we airdry clothing, we open a window. This has seem to taken care of the window mold.
The reason that I wrote about this is because we found an incredible amount of mold underneath the water tank part of the toilet. It is some thing that isnt normal and needed to be addressed. I called the landlord about this issue and arranged a meeting time of 4. Ed called back and left a message to A’s phone that he would be around between 4-430. We had a birthday party to attend in the afternoon and got home around 345. When we got home we found that one of the couches had been pulled out from the wall, my office chair was on the otherside of the room and some picture frames in the bedroom were pulled from the resting spot on the wall as well.
All of this was very strange. A listened to her phone and sure enough Ed left a message on her phone at 330 saying that he went into our place and looked around and saw no evidence of mold.He then proceeded to give a five minute lecture/message that we live in a rain forest and the it is moist. Mold is something that we all have to deal with. Because I mentioned the bathroom, he said that he looked extra closely around in there and saw nothing. he also proceeded to tell us that we have too much furniture and too much clothing in the closets.
‘If you are taking about the staining on the bath tub tiles, my goodness, thats nothing some good scrubbing cant take care of’
Ed, it wasnt the bathtub you twit, it was the toilet like I mentioned in the original message.
I dont want to rant anymore but the overall tone of his message was that we were complaining about nothing and that he was scolding us like little children. He was making judgements and assumptions about us and our stuff without even talking to us. He arrived early and didnt attempt to contact us to see if it was okay to enter our place. he just entered with out permission. I know my rights and I know that the landlord can not enter without 24 hours prior notice unless it is an emergency. believe me, this was no emergency! If I can figure out a way to make an mp3 of his message i will and post it.
On a final note. The landlady that we have normally dealt returned my call and began to scold me that unless it was an emergency, she doesnt want to be contacted on the weekend. she has 300 tenents and doesnt want to called. she gave me the same lecture about we live in a rainforest, she has mold and has to clean it up to and that ed told her that we have too much furniture and clothing. everytime i tried to tell her that i was unhappy with the way it was handled and that ed was unprofessional in the way he communicated with us, she would cut me off and tell me that she didnt want to deal with non-emergencies on the weekend. finally she told me to call the office and leave a message for ed and he’ll call me when he has the time.
I am sorry for calling you laura. I thought that when someone illegally enters your apartment, you are entitled to say something about it to the landlord!
You tell me if this is normal mold and i should clean this with 1% bleach and water!

Another New Era for Canucks fans
well…i was really surprised by the firing of dave nonis and thought that it was a bad idea. i really didnt think that the canucks were that far from being a very good team. but upon a further look, i thought that the team is a bit soft and if you look at hows doing well in the playoffs now and historically, they are full of highly skilled canadian players. that is what we need.
enter mike gillis. i hope that he works out…he talks tough but can he walk the talk? if he doesnt, i can hear the wheels falling off the band wagon now! maybe i’ll be able to go to a nucks game again!
tell me what you think?
also…i have been watching this political scandal with the tories being busted for overspending. i wonder how this will get spinned.
What I bought that I didnt really need
I have just completed the purchase of this show poster for one of my fav artist Sia.
I have this thing for buying stuff that I really dont need. But at the same time, I thought that it was a cool looking poster and I asked A what she thought and she it was cool. That means when it shows up some time in the next few weeks I can put it up in the house! Even though I didnt attend this particular show, I got the poster anyways…I saw her on the same tour at least! And she is coming to Pemberton as well.
