okay…i normally will try to write about arsenal and canuck games…

arsenal did win 1-0 over fulham yesterday. i am glad to see them squeek one out against a fellow london side. champ league this week…lets hope to keep the win streak alive

as for the canucks, their season starts on thursday v calgary. lets kick some cowboy ass!!!

now for the real post.

PEARL JAM

they played gm place on friday night and i have to say that it was one of my fav pj shows that i have been to and i have seen a few or least i thought. we managed to get 3rd row tickets…which were pretty awesome. the guy beside us told he had seen 120 shows and his 17 year old daughter had seen 27. i lost my stuff. thats is dedication and a real love for the band. i was glad to be sitting near the hardcore fans and not the casual ones. they would understand what i felt later on when they played the seldom heard breath or the never played no way. they are songs deep in the pj catalouge.they even managed to bring out ben harper for a song.

it was a great show, great crowd and great night. it was so good that ed ved even took time to diss the seattle crowd, talk hockey, about the commodore and even dedicated a song to the late terry fox. he mentioned that the band was going to donate 20k to the terry fox foundation from the show tickets. that got a huge response. the crowd was so good that they got rid of the mellower songs and replaced them with rockers because thats what the crowd was doing.

holy moley what a goalie

well it looks like all the rumours were true. roberto luongo has signed a new contact extention that ties him to the club for the rest of his foressable playing future. nothing is for certain, ie dany heatley, but if mike gillis can keep doing what he’s doing and the team stays close to winning the cup (hopefully soon). here is the story from tsn.

Roberto Luongo will be between the pipes in Vancouver for the foreseeable future.

On Wednesday, the Canucks announced that they have agreed to terms with their star goalie on a 12-year contract extension. RDS is reporting that the deal is worth $64 million.

The deal will keep Luongo in Vancouver through the 2021-22 season.

“I’m very excited,” Luongo said during a conference call. “Once the season was over I took a few weeks and it was a clear decision for me and my family. We love Vancouver and I think the organization has handled us really well and this gives us a chance to win, so we’re really ecstatic.”

Luongo had originally set a deadline of Sept. 13 to complete the deal, after which time he did not want the mid-season distraction of negotiating a new contract.

The 30-year old Canucks captain was entering the final year of a four-year, $27 million contract. He will make $7.5-million for the 2009-10 season.

“Today is a very exciting day for the Canucks organization,” said Canucks president and general manager Mike Gillis. “Roberto Luongo is the leader of our hockey team; he is in the prime of his playing career and has a tremendous desire to make the Canucks a championship team. His leadership, competitiveness and character are what this team will represent for many years to come.”

Last season, the all-star goalie went 33-13-7 with nine shutouts and a GAA of 2.34 for the Canucks. He is one of the top candidates to be selected to play for Canada at the upcoming Olympics.

He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round (4th overall) of the 1997 draft. He will be entering his 10th NHL season.

mish mash 2

we went away to spend time in the wilderness. yes thats right, i went somewhere out in the woods.

while i was away a few things went on.

1. the canucks picked up a few players. 3 d men to help out the line. that should be good. here is hoping that schneider will be the pp quarterback we have always needed and ehrhoff can be that puck moving d was have also needed. excerpt from tsn

The Vancouver Canucks have added a lot of depth to their blueline in a short period of time. The team has acquired defencemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Daniel RahimiPatrick White. Vancouver also announced on Friday that they have inked veteran defenceman Mathieu Schneider to a one-year, $1.55 million contract.

2. arsenal lost v man un 2-1. from all accounts, its sounds like a shame because they were in control of the game, and then they conceded a penalty and then diaby headed the ball in his own net. and to top it all off, arsene wenger was sent to the stand with 30 secs left in the game. the ref really did that up poorly and now they are issuing an apology…twits…least the season is still young…

3. the nhlpa just fired their exec director. apparently he was too close to the nhl’s top brass and it wasnt so hot on the players side. and they have named a new interm exec director, ian penny.

canucks sign a russian…

while reading the healines on tsn.ca, the one headline that caught my eye was that the canucks have signed a new player from russia. his name is sergei shiokov. i then went to the canucks website to see what was going on. here is what they have to say…

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the team has signed right wing, Sergei Shirokov. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shirokov, 23, recorded 41 points (17-24-41) in 56 games with CSKA Moscow of the KHL in 2008-09. He has also appeared in two World Junior Championships as a member of team Russia in 2005 and 2006. In 12 games played over two tournaments, Shirokov registered 13 points (7-6-13).

The 5-foot-10, 176 lbs. native of Moscow, was drafted 163rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
