mish mash 2

we went away to spend time in the wilderness. yes thats right, i went somewhere out in the woods.

while i was away a few things went on.

1. the canucks picked up a few players. 3 d men to help out the line. that should be good. here is hoping that schneider will be the pp quarterback we have always needed and ehrhoff can be that puck moving d was have also needed. excerpt from tsn

The Vancouver Canucks have added a lot of depth to their blueline in a short period of time. The team has acquired defencemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Daniel RahimiPatrick White. Vancouver also announced on Friday that they have inked veteran defenceman Mathieu Schneider to a one-year, $1.55 million contract.

2. arsenal lost v man un 2-1. from all accounts, its sounds like a shame because they were in control of the game, and then they conceded a penalty and then diaby headed the ball in his own net. and to top it all off, arsene wenger was sent to the stand with 30 secs left in the game. the ref really did that up poorly and now they are issuing an apology…twits…least the season is still young…

3. the nhlpa just fired their exec director. apparently he was too close to the nhl’s top brass and it wasnt so hot on the players side. and they have named a new interm exec director, ian penny.

arsenal 3 – 1 celtic (5-1 on aggregate)

arsenal have done the expected and saw off celtic tonight in champions league play. this now ensures that arsenal go through and play in the group stages of the tournament. hopefully the outcome will be similar if not better this year. last year they reached the semi-finals, only to be beaten by man u.

Arsenal made light work of Celtic in their Champions League play-off, winning 3-1 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate. Eduardo opened the scoring with a dubious penalty before Emmanuel Eboue and Andrei Arshavin added. Massimo Donati scored a late consolation.

arsenal 4 – 1 portsmouth

well…another saturday and another arsenal win. i wasnt able to watch this one on the ol tv buts thats okay. i am glad to see the gunners off to a great start to the season. hopefully they can continue the excellent form they are currently showing. i am really glad to see william gallas off to such a hot start. the captaincy was too much for him. some people are not good with that kind of expectation. by freeing him of that responsiblity, arsene wenger has now allowed gallas to play the excellent football that he is capable of!

arsenal 2 nil over celtic

arsenal have taken their first step towards qualifying for the group stages of the champions league. they have beaten cetlic of glasgow 2-0 today. although they were in control for much of the match, it did take two lucky deflections for the goals. the first was from a cesc freekick that end up going off of  a ducking william gallas and into the net. the second was a cross from gael clichy that deflected off the celtic captain and in. lucky goals but they did derserve to win the match. they play celtic one more time but with 2 away goals to their advantage, they should be able to qualify without too much trouble…come on you gunners!

arsenal hit for 6

yesterday was the start of the english premier league. i did blog about it yesterday but seeing as my site went the way of the dodo birds i have to do it again.

arsenal played their season opener versus everton. during the summer they have lost two of their better players to manchester city. they really havent done much to replace them, so everyone and myself included where wondering how this was going to all work out. will they have enough already or do they need to go and get some more players.

well yesterday was a really great start, there is no doubt about that. being able to knock in 6 against any premiership team is an incredible feat. it was also nice to see Eduardo score on his return after his horrific injury last year. it was also nice to see Cesc Fabragas, the captain, score as well. when he is on and playing well, they whole team seems to follow his lead.

one game doesnt make a season but it was a great start none the less.

and finally here is the nike football ad featuring arsenal ‘the pledge’

now what?!

Well Canucks shit the bed and Arsenal have too…

Cant Sleep, What Else to Do!

Its is in the wee hours of the morning and I cant sleep. Maybe its the turkey waiting, no, more like kicking to get out of my stomach.

I thought that I would check on the status of my blog and came to the realization that I no longer may any attention to it. I should but I dont, so now on I will do my best to be a good friend and nourish this blog back to health once again!

Nucks won their division for the 2nd time in three years…not bad…i bet there are a lot of broken ankles that are healing just in time for the playoffs. Burrows has been pretty clutch for the last little while. Lets hope he can keep it up and watch out for Sundin, its his time to shine.

Got my Pearl Jam ten re-issuse…very please about that. I forgot how awesome that album really is. It hasnt really left my cd player for the last couple of weeks…
Finally got really into the police over the weekend watch Spectacle with Elvis Costello. He was interviewing the Police this past episode and there was some cool insight into the band. Here is their combo performance of ‘Watching the Detectives/Walking On the Moon’. Very cool…

This is a clip of how Roxanne came to be and how Sting originally wrote the song

Thats it for now…time to try to sleep so I dont lose it on the students in the mornin’ b/c I’m grumpy!!!

Arsenal again

Yesterday a and i checked out an arsenal stadium tour. it was pretty cool. we got to sit in the directors box. that is where the filthy rich owners of arsenal and their cronies get to sit. very posh. then we saw the changeroom, the pressroom, where the press is kept, the dugout and the pitch, which was pretty crazy looking. we couldnt go on it but it looked like carpet.

then we hit up the camden markets. p said that is there the whole doc martin thing started. it looked like similar the a part of granville street, where the rock shop is.

came home and then went to angel(the kits area) for dinner and a few drinks. we went to a turkish place. excellent dinner, great atmosphere. then we went to some bar for drinks. it was a really nice place that had character. we lamented on the fact that their was really nothing like it in vancouver!

next up was home, a conference call with al and then crashed…pretty long day…now we are going to start again with another adventure in store!
